Description

As a cannabinoid enthusiast, you’re probably familiar with “full spectrum CBD.” So naturally, you’re probably wondering:

“What is Select Spectrum?”

In short, it refers to hemp products that have a combination of CBD, Delta-9 THC, and other cannabinoids. What’s also notable is that Hometown Hero is the only hemp company out there that offers Select Spectrum.

So in this mini-guide, we’re going to cover everything you need to know about Select Spectrum.

We’re going to go over:

Let’s dive right in!

CANNABINOIDS IN HEMP

Before we start discussing Select Spectrum, or stuff like “high spectrum CBD” and “full spectrum CBD,” let’s just start with the basics.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are natural compounds found in cannabis. Cannabis refers to a plant species that encompasses both marijuana and hemp.

Yes, hemp and marijuana are the same species. So what are the cannabinoids that can be found in hemp?

To be honest, there are at least 113 cannabinoids that we know of. To list all of them would be unnecessary.

Here are the most well-known hemp cannabinoids:

So, where do these cannabinoids fit when we discuss “selected spectrum CBD” or “whole spectrum CBD?”

Well, let’s first talk about CBD, which we will cover next.

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. This cannabinoid can be found in both hemp and marijuana. In fact, right behind Delta-9 THC, CBD is the second most prominent cannabinoid in marijuana.

When extracted from hemp, CBD is federally legal due to the 2018 Farm Bill.

CBD is not a form of THC. However, much like THC, it does react with the endocannabinoid system of the human body. What is the endocannabinoid system? Basically, it’s a network of neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) found throughout the body that helps maintain stable internal conditions.

It’s that simple.

CBD interacts with this system but differently when compared to Delta-8 THC or Delta-9 THC. The effects of CBD aren’t as noticeable as the effects of THC.

It’s important to note that the effects of any cannabinoid vary from person to person. Generally speaking, many CBD enjoyers have reported that the cannabinoid helps “take the edge off.”

Now that we’ve covered CBD let’s get into the CBD spectrums.

CBD SPECTRUMS

Ok, so we’ve thrown around a lot of terms about CBD spectrums in this guide. Let’s set the record straight. When it comes to extracts of CBD, there are three main categories:

  • Broad Spectrum CBD
  • Full Spectrum CBD
  • CBD Isolate

Full Spectrum CBD

The term “full spectrum CBD” refers to a mixture of various cannabis extracts. Generally, they will contain a 0.3% or lower concentration of Delta-9 THC.

Broad Spectrum CBD

When people talk about “broad spectrum CBD,” they refer to a mixture that is similar to full spectrum, but the main difference is that there is no THC present. Sometimes people refer to it as “wide spectrum CBD.”

CBD Isolate

This category refers to a set of products that generally contain 99% CBD. The CBD is isolated from other cannabinoids.

When we talk about “spectrum” in the hemp industry, we’re talking about the combination of cannabinoids in the product.

So what does “Select Spectrum” mean?

We’ll first need to cover Delta-9 THC.

WHAT IS DELTA-9 THC?

Hometown Hero’s Select Spectrum products contain CBD, Delta-9 THC, and other cannabinoids.

So what is Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9 is the most well-known variant of THC. Most of the time, it is simply referred to as just, “THC.”

The compound naturally occurs in both hemp and marijuana—just in different amounts. Because it is the most prevalent cannabinoid in marijuana, Delta-9 is usually associated with the cannabis variant.

It should be noted that any product containing Delta-9 THC has the potential to be psychoactive. As with any cannabinoid product, we recommend consulting a doctor before trying, doing your research, and starting out in small amounts.

A common misconception is that Delta-9 THC is flat-out illegal. This is the case in many instances but not all of them.

Delta-9 THC is federally legal and legal in many states if it meets the following criteria:

  1. It is derived from hemp
  2. It occurs in a concentration of less than 0.3% on a dry weight basis

If Delta-9 THC is extracted from marijuana, it is illegal on a federal level. If it is extracted from hemp but occurs at a concentration greater than 0.3%, it is also illegal.

DELTA 8 VS DELTA 9: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

We promise we will answer, “What is Select Spectrum?” However, there is just one more thing we need to answer…Delta 8 vs Delta 9: what’s the difference?

If you’re familiar with Hometown Hero, then you’re probably well acquainted with Delta-8. We offer tinctures, edibles, disposables, vape cartridges, and other products containing Delta 8 THC.

To talk about the differences, let’s start with the similarities.

Delta-8 and Delta-9 are both forms of tetrahydrocannabinol. They can be found in both hemp and marijuana. Delta-8 appears in small amounts in both plants, so if someone has smoked marijuana, they have already tried a little bit of Delta 8 THC.

Delta-9 is the THC that has federal legal limits. Delta-8 does not. Interestingly enough, Delta-9 is actually more prevalent in hemp than Delta-8.

How do the effects compare?

THC can bring out:

  • Euphoria
  • Relaxation
  • Contentedness
  • A general sense of well-being

With Delta-9, there are some different effects, but the effects listed above are more noticeable than with Delta-8.

Another thing to note is that Delta-8 and Delta-9 are isomers. Although “isomer” sounds like a complicated chemistry term, it’s pretty simple. When we say that two compounds are isomers, we say that they have the same formula but a different arrangement.

The chemical difference is that Delta 8 has a bond on its eighth carbon chain, and Delta 9 has a bond on its ninth—hence the names.

WHAT IS SELECT SPECTRUM?

Ok, so now that we went over CBD, CBD spectrums, and Delta 8 vs. Delta 9, we can finally get onto Select Spectrum.

Select Spectrum means that the product contains a curated blend of cannabinoids to encourage the “entourage effect.”

What is the entourage effect?

When isolated, cannabinoids have their own distinct properties. When together, they may be able to “bring out the best” in each other in a certain sense. This is known by cannabis enthusiasts as the “entourage effect.”

Hometown Hero’s Select Spectrum gummies contain 10mg of CBD, 10m of Delta-9 THC, and other cannabinoids. It should be noted that these edibles have CBD along with Delta-9 THC. This combination is likely to have a psychoactive effect.

SELECT SPECTRUM FAQS

Is it legal?

Select Spectrum products are legal on a federal level. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and its derivatives. According to federal law, hemp is cannabis containing a 0.3% or less concentration of Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis.

All of the cannabinoids used in Hometown Hero’s Select Spectrum products are derived from hemp. The Delta-9 THC content of these products does not exceed the 0.3% limit.

As a rule of thumb, Select Spectrum products are generally legal in states where CBD is legal. Every state has its own set of rules regulating the sale of hemp products however, Select Spectrum is legal in more states than Delta-8 THC.

Is it safe?

All of Hometown Hero’s hemp products are tested by a DEA-certified lab to guarantee safety. Our COAs not only feature the cannabinoid composition, but they also report if any contaminants were present.

For an extra measure of caution, we only use CO2 extraction to derive our cannabinoids from hemp. The only extraction chemical used in this process is beverage-grade CO2.

Can I get it in the mail?

Because Select Spectrum products are federally legal, you can get them in the mail. The same state laws that make Delta 8 legal make Select Spectrum products legal. So if you live in a state where Delta 8 is legal, you can order Select Spectrum online.

How is it made?

Hometown Hero only uses naturally-derived cannabinoids. The process we use to extract these cannabinoids is the same process used for making organic decaf coffee. In layman’s terms, hemp gets blasted by beverage-grade CO2 at high pressures and temperatures. The CO2 “pushes” the cannabinoids out of the plant material.
